Project Summary

The Woollahra Library’s Local Writers Word Festival is a day long festival which takes place on a Saturday and includes a seminar on writing, interviews with local writers and book sales.

The Library invited submissions from small-press or self published authors living in the Woollahra Municipality or neighbouring LGAs to be part of its fourth Local Writers Word Festival (previously known as Local Writers Day). Twenty-one submissions were received and thirteen authors were selected to give readings and be interviewed about their work by Irina Dunn, Executive Director of the NSW Writers Centre. The day also featured a seminar by Irina Dunn on Getting Published : the whole story.
Authors could sell their books on the day and the Library held a bookfair and so provided a great opportunity for cross promotion of two related Library events. The general public buy tickets to attend.

"Cities must trade in cultural cringe for a growing sense of confidence in our distinctiveness. They must try to be somewhere, not anywhere in the extended global sprawl of electronic suburbia. Cities must wilfully believe that the unique combination of events that may fuse here is just as compelling as those that may fuse somewhere else. Cities need to involve their people in making and remaking their own mythology, and create something that is truly unique." Marcus Westbury
